What we can do for you?

Certified Handlers for Class 6.1A and 6.1B - Industrial Chemicals

If you're working with highly toxic industrial chemicals like chlorine, hydrogen cyanide, or ammonia, you are legally required to hold a Certified Handler Certificate under WorkSafe NZ regulations. Industries that typically require certification include:

  • Water and wastewater treatment facilities
  • Industrial manufacturing plants
  • Chemical storage and distribution businesses
  • Food and beverage processing sites
  • Laboratories and research facilities
  • Refrigeration and cold storage operations

These substances can cause serious harm if mishandled—Certified Handlers ensure safe use, proper controls, and full regulatory compliance.

Certified Handlers Certificates for Class 6.1A and 6.1B - Vertebrate Toxic Agents

If you work with Vertebrate Toxic Agents—such as 1080, cyanide, or PAPP—you're legally required to hold a Certified Handler Certificate under WorkSafe NZ regulations. These substances are acutely toxic and strictly controlled.

Typical users include:

  • Pest control professionals
  • Council and DOC contractors
  • Farmers and rural land managers
  • Pest eradication teams in conservation zones
  • Biosecurity and invasive species control personnel

These roles often operate in complex, high-risk environments—much like infrastructure teams navigating tight deadlines and regulatory obligations. Having the right certification ensures your team is trained, trusted, and ready to carry out work safely and legally.

Certified Handlers Certificates for Class 6.1A and 6.1B - Fumigants

Certified Handlers Certificates for Class 6.1A and 6.1B - Fumigants

If you work with highly toxic fumigants, you’re legally required to be a Certified Handler under WorkSafe NZ regulations. Industries that commonly require certification include:

  • Fumigation & Pest Control
  • Biosecurity & Quarantine Services
  • Timber Treatment & Export
  • Agriculture & Post-Harvest Storage
  • Logistics, Warehousing & Freight

Class 6.1A and 6.1B substances are extremely hazardous—only Certified Handlers with the right training and safety knowledge can use them. Reach out to Assure Safety for your certification or training.

Location Certificates - Class 6 and 8 substances

Cylinder Importation Certificates - including UNRTG Cylinders

Certified Handlers Certificates for Class 6.1A and 6.1B - Fumigants

A Location Compliance Certificate is legally required when you store hazardous substances such as:

  • Class 6 (Toxic substances)
  • Class 8 (Corrosive substances)

You need this certificate if:

  • You’re storing these substances above threshold quantities set by WorkSafe NZ
  • The substances are stored for more than 2 hours in a designated location
  • You’re operating a warehouse, factory, farm, or industrial site with hazardous chemical storage
  • You’re using substances like chlorine, ammonia, acids, or toxic pesticides on-site

The certificate confirms your site meets strict safety standards for storage, emergency response, and secondary containment.

Compliant Site Plans and Emergency Response Plans

Compliant Site Plans and Emergency Response Plans

Compliant Site Plans and Emergency Response Plans

If your site stores or uses hazardous substances, WorkSafe NZ regulations require you to have:

  • A Compliant Site Plan showing where hazardous substances are stored, safety equipment, and key emergency features.
  • An Emergency Response Plan outlining how to manage spills, leaks, fires, or other incidents involving hazardous substances.

You need these documents when:

  • You're storing hazardous substances above prescribed threshold quantities
  • You’re applying for a Location Compliance Certificate
  • Your site poses a moderate to high risk due to the type or volume of chemicals
  • You want to ensure staff and emergency services can respond safely and effectively

Assure Safety can prepare these plans for you—accurate, regulation-ready, and tailored to your site.

We assist with certification for stationary container systems storing hazardous substances above threshold quantities. This ensures your tank and associated equipment meet required safety and compliance standards.

Process Container Compliance Certificates – Process Tanks
We certify stationary process containers that meet specific criteria, including:

  • Below-ground tanks (or those covered by earth/material), regardless of size
  • Above-ground tanks over 250 L for hazardous gases
  • Above-ground tanks over 1,000 L for hazardous liquids

Compliance Plans
For tanks or process containers built before July 1, 2006, that don’t fully comply with current standards, we offer compliance plans. These outline requirements for continued safe operation but do not constitute formal certification.
